🌿 Paralysis & Muscular Dystrophy

Understanding Paralysis

Paralysis is the loss of movement in one or more parts of the body due to a disturbance in the nervous system. In Ayurveda, it is referred to as Pakshaghata, caused by imbalance of Vata dosha that affects nerve functioning and muscular coordination.

Common Causes:

  • Stroke (blockage or rupture of blood vessels in brain)
  • Injury to brain or spinal cord
  • Neurological disorders
  • Sudden Vata imbalance due to stress, poor lifestyle, or ageing

Symptoms of Paralysis:

  • Sudden weakness or immobility in face, hands, or legs
  • Slurred speech or difficulty in swallowing
  • Loss of balance and coordination
  • Numbness or tingling in affected areas

Understanding Muscular Dystrophy

Muscular Dystrophy is a group of genetic disorders where muscles gradually weaken and lose strength. In Ayurveda, this condition is linked to Mamsa Dhatvagni Mandya (weakness of muscle tissues due to impaired metabolism) and aggravated Vata dosha.

Symptoms of Muscular Dystrophy:

  • Progressive muscle weakness
  • Difficulty in walking, standing, or climbing stairs
  • Frequent falls
  • Joint stiffness or contractures
  • Breathing or cardiac weakness in advanced stages
